Government of PakistanElections to be held next year as per schedule: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday told media representatives that the general elections would be held in 2018 as per schedule.

Her remarks came amid speculations that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government may call early elections as the most-waited Supreme Court’s verdict in Panamagate Case involving Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members is around the corner.

Recently, the federal government approved 97 natural gas expansion schemes worth more than Rs37 billion for all provinces; however, out of those, 77 were approved for Punjab where the PML-N is in power.

The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan termed the move by the PML-N government as an ‘attempt by Sharifs to buy next elections’.

Talking to media persons in Islamabad on Monday, Marriyum Aurangzeb further said that all the developmental projects were near to completion. She also said that all out efforts were being made to eliminate terrorism, and terrorists could not shake their resolve.

The state minister said that areas to which the provincial governments did not pay heed, the prime minister himself was supervising uplift projects there.
