ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has given away special awards to its 45 faculty members for doing outstanding research work in their respective disciplines.

According to an official of the AIOU on Monday, the awards were comprised both cash and commendation certificates.

The special incentives cover award on publication of research journals, doing research on projects undertaken by the AIOU and those projects given to the individuals and faculties by other national and international institutions, the official said.

The awards were given to encourage the faculty members to conduct research that relates to the socio-economic problems of the country and helps to serve the community’s interest.

“This is also mark of respect to those who try to bring innovation and creativity in their academic task and disseminate their knowledge and research to end-users,” he added.

He said it was due to the hard work of their faculty members the university had published nine journals in different disciplines within a period of about two and half years. This was in line with the criteria set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The university has especially set up ORIC to bridge gap between the researchers and the end-users.

Over the last two years, it has been focusing on promoting research culture in the country through various means including publishing research journals and holding national and international conferences.
