PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A special campaign for enrollment of tribal students was started in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) where 200,000 children would be admitted in schools during the ongoing drive that would continue till May 31.

Talking to the state-run news agency on Wednesday, officials in Education Department FATA told that a target of enrolling 200,000 students was set for ongoing campaign already began on April 8.

The official said directives have been issued to concerned authorities in all the agencies and frontier regions to ensure admission of street children in schools during this campaign. The admitted students would be provided free books from primary to class 10th.

The official said Implementation on Free and Compulsory Education Act 2012 has been started with a prime focus to increase enrollment of Fata students.

The government has setup 142 accelerating learning schools for 6,000 students besides setting up Fata Endowment Fund for provision of scholarships to intelligent students of tribal areas.

To provide comfortable atmosphere to students, he said additional class rooms were setup in 282 schools besides IT labs and provision of furniture.

To provide quality education services to Fata students, the country’s top private educational systems like Beaconhouse and CT schools has been allowed to open their branches in Fata.

The government has also setup a Fata University, cadet colleges and Governor Model Schools besides starting BS programme in seven degree colleges of Fata to provide quality higher education facilities to the students.

Free books to students from primary to 10th class and installation of solar system at schools for provision of uninterrupted power supply would help promote education in FATA.
