ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a Military Base in Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province a day earlier, causing the loss of many precious human lives.

On Friday, militants dressed up in Afghan army uniforms attacked a Military Base in Provincial Capital Mazar-i-Sharif with rocket-propelled grenades and rifles. Resultantly, 142 Afghan Soldiers were killed and many others wounded.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Afghanistan as well as to the bereaved families and pray for early recovery of the injured,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Saturday.

The Statement said that Pakistan reiterates strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations.

“We reaffirm our continued commitment to work closely with the Afghan Government and the international community in the fight against the scourge of terrorism,” it said.

The attack took place when Afghan soldiers were leaving a mosque after offering Friday prayers.

General Bajwa condemns terrorist attack at Mazar-i-Sharif

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also strongly condemned that terrorist attack at Mazar-i-Sharif.

In a statement, he grieved on loss of innocent lives and expressed solidarity with the Afghan security forces and brotherly resilient Afghan nation.

“Terrorists are our common enemy and we shall defeat them,” the COAS said according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
