ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The first death anniversary of renowned philanthropist and Edhi Foundation Chairman Abdul Sattar Edhi is being observed across the Country on Saturday.

The 88-year-old Abdul Sattar Edhi died in Karachi on July 8 last year. He was suffering from kidney failure, high blood pressure and diabetes.

In a message on the death anniversary of late Edhi, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urged for cultivation of characteristics which were the hallmarks of late Abdul Sattar Edhi’s personality to serve the humanity. He said people like him were not only the real assets of a country or nation but also for the whole humanity.

Paying tributes to Edhi, he further noted that late Edhi had devoted his life for the service of humanity and never differentiated on the basis of caste, creed or religion.

The prime minister said late Edhi had treated all humans alike and considered serving them as a noble cause.

Nawaz Sharif said due to his traits, late Edhi has been respected throughout the world and the people could pay tribute on his anniversary by emulating his qualities to serve the humanity.

Meanwhile, a major media outlet has launched a campaign to declare July 8 as ‘National Charity Day’ in remembrance of the work of Abdul Sattar Edhi and called on the federal government to officially declare it.

The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and Tehmina Durrani, spouse of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, have also reportedly endorsed the demand.
