Monitoring Desk: Afghanistan war has no military solution only but political one and Afghan government has to pay its share to resolve Afghan crises.
Addressing the nation from Fort Myer military base in Arlington, he was of the view that United States can not continue things in Afghanistan for all times to come and there is no solution of Afghan war through using military power rather political solution must be in place and this is the responsibility of Afghan government to play its role for political solution and must add its share to solve Afghan war issue.
He stated that security threats links with Afghanistan are still immense for USA and for the region therefore Afghan issue can not be left unchecked.
He stated that he studied Afghanistan with his national-security team at Camp David, Maryland and he believes that Afghanistan issue can not be left unaddressed.
US President did not mention how many more troops would be sent to Afghanistan but he indicated increase in troops.
He committed a long war in Afghanistan by stating that “Our troops will fight to win”. His speech indicates that US presence in Afghanistan will continue till US forces eliminates ISIS, al-Qaeda and Taliban threats in Afghanistan.
Trump accepted that realities are different than expected for anybody who does not sit in Oval office. He said:
“My original instinct was to pull out, and historically I like following my instincts,” Trump said. “But all my life, I’ve heard that decisions are much different when you sit behind the desk in the Oval Office.”
His speech and new strategy for Afghanistan is not different than of former Presidents Obama and Bush but he would try to engage Afghan government instead of taking decisions alone. His speech indicates that this is foremost responsibility of Afghan government to bring peace to Afghanistan and peace can not be won without political solution of this war shaken country.
