Government of PakistanPakistani Parliament tempted to investigate Raymond Davis’ release

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has called for the investigation of Raymond Allen Davis’ release, and also extended his full support to the Parliament to probe the incident which, he added, caused embarrassment for the whole Country.

“I will extend full support, if release of Raymond Davis is investigated,” the minister said while speaking in response to a Calling Attention Notice and an Adjournment Motion moved in the Senate on Friday.

The adjournment motion was moved in the Upper House after Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent Raymond Davis in his book “The Contractor” launched in June 2017, unfolded the whole episode how he was released following being imprisoned on murder charges in Lahore in 2011.

Raymond Davis had also narrated among other revelations in his book that how much the then Chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha’s role was instrumental in his release.

While speaking in Senate, Khawaja Asif said that different people played their role to release Raymond Davis.

Raymond Davis was jailed after a Murder Case was registered in Lahore’s Lytton Road Police Station over killing of two Pakistani young men – Faheem and Faizan – at City’s Qurtaba Chowk on January 27, 2011.

But later, Raymond Davis was released on March 16, 2011 following a $2.4 million deal with the heirs of deceased young men, and deported from Pakistan.

Khawaja Asif deplored that the people, who played their role in the release of Raymond Davis, may have personnel interest.

The foreign minister said that Pakistani government paid compensation to the heirs. He said that it is an important issue, and the Parliament should take notice of it.

The minister also stressed that the Supremacy of the Parliament must be ensured in the Country; otherwise, Raymond Davis-like incident will continue to occur.
