ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal has said that the federal government stands by the people of Karachi where intermittent rain has wreaked havoc, killing at least 11 people.

“In this time of crisis, the federal government stands shoulder to shoulder with the citizens of Karachi,” the interior minister said while talking to the Director General Rangers Sindh Major General Muhammad Saeed in a telephonic conversation on Thursday.

The interior minister director the Director General Rangers Sindh to utilize all resources in the rescue and relief operation in flood affected areas hit by torrential rain in Karachi.

The minister directed the Director General Rangers to set up relief camps to secure the affectees and assist the civil administration.

Ahsan Iqbal also observed that natural calamities are disasters and require collective efforts of all stakeholders.

The dangers can be mitigated by taking better precautionary steps, he added.

Lauding the role of paramilitary force, the interior minister said that Rangers in Sindh is playing a crucial role in the stability of peace in Karachi.

Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in Karachi as heavy rains inundated several low lying areas of the City.

The staff of concerned departments and agencies has been put on high alert to deal with any untoward situation.
