ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Monday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), praying the Court to declare his indictment null and void.
Last week, an accountability court judgement Muhammad Bashir indicted the finance minister in a corruption reference filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The NAB had filed the reference against Ishaq Dar for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income in pursuance of the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s judgment in Panama Papers Case.
In his petition filed in the IHC today, the finance minister maintained that he was indicted by the accountability court without giving him required mandated time.
Ishaq Dar requested the Islamabad High Court to order the accountability court to suspend the indictment proceedings until a decision on his petition.
Earlier in the day, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad to face references but survived the indictment as the Court adjourned the hearing of references till October 9.
However separately, the accountability court issued Non-bailable arrest warrants of Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar as they were deliberately skipping court proceedings.
The court directed to ensure the appearance of Nawaz Sharif’s children and son-in-law in the next hearing.
