KARACHI, Pakistan: In a bid to curtail crime against women in Karachi, 10,000 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras may be installed in the City soon.

While briefing the Standing Committee of Pakistan Senate on Human Rights in Karachi on Tuesday about measures adopted to contain instances of scalpel assault on women in certain parts of Karachi, the Sindh Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon said the City might soon have 10,000 CCTV Cameras installed at different sites along with some already functional under the domain of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and City Police respectively.

The Sindh Chief Secretary said the newly installed CCTV Cameras would be managed by Pakistan Rangers-Sindh and other intelligence cum law enforcing agencies (LEAs).

The meeting was attended by Senators Nasreen Jalil, Farhat Ullah Babar and Nisar Muhammad along with Provincial Home Secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez, Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) – Sindh Mushtaq Mahar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) – Karachi Sultan Khawaja, Inspector General (IG) – Prisons, Nusrat Mangan and other officials.
