PoliticsNAB references: Nawaz, Maryam and Captain (retd) Safdar indicted

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: An Accountability Court in Islamabad on Thursday indicted the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar in NAB references; however, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The indictment was announced by the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir, shortly after he dismissed two separate petitions filed by the accused, seeking a delay in indictment.

The indictment of all three was announced in London Flats, Flagship Investment and Al Aziza Steel Mills references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as per the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Court maintained that the accused failed to tell the sources of purchasing London Flats.

However all three accused refused to accept the charges.

The indictment was announced in the presence of Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar but Nawaz Sharif was not present in the Court as under Section 17C of NAB Law, the Court may indict a person even in his absence. The former prime minister was indicted through his representative Zafir Khan.

Earlir, Ayesha Hamid, the Counsel of Nawaz Sharif, filed an application in the accountability court seeking a delay in her Client’s indictment while Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar also filed an application via their Counsel, asking the Court to adjourn the indictment proceedings. However the Court turned down both the petitions.

Meanwhile talking to media, Maryam Nawaz said they were facing cases with full heart, courage and patience but not running away from the Courts. She said they appeared before the Courts in respect of law and judiciary.

Maryam Nawaz said the verdict was announced on the base of controversial and incomplete report. “We reject all allegations,” she said.
