QUETTA, Pakistan: The Balochistan assembly on Saturday elected Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo as the new Provincial Chief Minister, a few days after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sanaullah Zehri relinquished his Charge amid a no-confidence motion.
Bizenjo’ sole rival Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s (PkMAP) Agha Syed Liaqat Ali bagged 13 votes.
The results were announced by the Balochistan assembly Speaker Raheela Durrani.
Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, the former Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan assembly, was the third Provincial Chief Minister since May 2013 as earlier National Party’s (NP) Dr Abdul Malik Baloch remained the Balochistan Chief Minister from June 7, 2013 to December 23, 2015 and then PML-N’s Sanaullah Zehri took over as the Head of Coalition government in the province from December 24, 2015 to January 9, 2018.
Sanaullah Zehri tendered his resignation to the Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai last Tuesday after on January 2, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslameen’s (MWM) Syed Agha Raza submitted a no-confidence motion in the legislature with signatures of 14 provincial lawmakers against the then Chief Minister.
