MARDAN, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa especially its Chairman Imran Khan is boasting of having depoliticized the Provincial Police; however, reality depicts another story as Mardan Police have allegedly threatened a local journalist after he highlighted their misdeeds in his report.
The Journalist Community has expressed outrage over police bullying while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Union of Journalists (KPUJ) has summoned an emergency meeting, according to Daily Khabrain.
In addition, religious, social and political personalities have also strongly condemned the threats from Mardan Police against the journalist, and demanded the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Salahuddin Khan Mehsud to immediately take notice of such police bullying.
They also demanded the IG KPK Police to initiate an inquiry against concerned District Police Officer (DPO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). They said that if their demands are not acted upon, they would boycott all programs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, and also launch a protest movement.
Separately, the member of Nowshera Press Club Kamran Khattak affiliated with Abb Takk News was stopped from taking the oath at the eleventh hour after he criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. Kamran Khattak was also ousted from the oath-taking ceremony at Nowshera Press Club with the help of SHO.
Kamran Khattak requested Abb Takk News, Online News agency, all media Organizations, and the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb to ensure protection to him.
