ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to keep working to strengthen South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as an effective instrument of regional cooperation in South Asia.

The ambassador made these remarks in a meeting with the SAARC Secretary General Amjad Hussain B. Sial in New Delhi during the latter’s visit to India, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Friday.

During the meeting, matters related to the SAARC process and promotion of its goals and objectives were discussed.

The SAARC Secretary General was in India to attend the inaugural session of the International Conference of Women Entrepreneurs on “Innovation, Incubation and Industrialization”, being held in Visakhapatnam, a Port City in Indian Southeastern Andhra Pradesh State from January 17-19, 2018.

Established in 1985, SAARC is among the primary organizations for regional cooperation in Asia.

Pakistan is among the founding members of SAARC, which also includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
