ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that the average daily business of the passenger trains of Pakistan Railways is Rs 63 million at present.
Responding to a question during question hour in the House, the Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology and Telecommunication Nadeem Abbas Rabaria said that at present a consolidated profit and loss account is being prepared as part of financial statement of Pakistan Railways.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that separate accounts for each business unit including passenger business unit, freight business unit and infrastructure business unit are not being maintained over the system to provide the month-wise profit and loss of the passenger train service.
“Efforts are being made to acquire an enterprise wide software solution and software modules being provided by SAP covering requirements of Pakistan Railways in areas such as financial, costing, inventory management, project management and others,” he added.
Nadeem Abbas said that the Ministry of Railways is already in discussion with the Office of Controller General of Accounts, SAP and M/s Siemens officials.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that after implementation of the system, Pakistan Railways will be able to generate unit/passenger train-wise account of revenue and expenses.
To a question, Nadeem Abbas said that Pakistan Railways was taking several steps to renovate and upgrade the old railway stations across the Country.
