KARACHI, Pakistan: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran Sindhi politician and rights activist Jam Saqi who passed away in Hyderabad earlier in the day.

The 73-year-old Jami Saqi died following a protracted illness. His funeral prayers was held in Naseem Nagar, Hyderabad.

In a statement, the Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari termed the death of Jam Saqi as a big loss of the democratic forces of the Country including the PPP.

Bilawal Bhutto saluted the valiant political struggle and sacrifices of Jam Saqi, saying the latter had been fighting for democracy and democratic rights for his whole life.

The Chairman PPP said his party shared the grief of Jam Saqi’s family and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the members of bereaved family and his fans to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.

The PPP Central Information Secretary Dr Nafisa Shah in her condolence message over the death of Jam Saqi also expressed deep grief and sorrow.

Paying rich tribute to Jam Saqi, Nafisa Shah said through his life, Jam Saqi fought for the restoration of democracy and his death was an irreparable loss to the pro-democratic forces in the Country. She said Jam Saqi’s death had created a vacuum that could not be filled.

Nafisa Shah also said the political struggle of Jam Saqi against dictatorship and his services for democracy would always be remembered.

Besides politicians, senior journalists including Hamid Mir, Imtiaz Alam, Iftikhar Ahmad and Mazhar Abbas among others also paid glowing tributes to late Jami Saqi for his services for democracy and the Country.
