Government of PakistanPM Khaqan reaches Kathmandu on two-day visit

KATHMANDU, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Kathmandu on Monday on a two-day official visit to felicitate the Nepalese leadership on successful completion of democratic process, resulting in the formation of the new government.

Nepal’s Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada received the prime minister on his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is the first high-level dignitary to visit the Himalayan Country after the Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli assumed his Office in February 2018.

Besides meeting his Nepalese Counterpart, the prime minister will also meet President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari.

The visit of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to Nepal is part of Pakistan’s pro-active and outreach efforts to engage with regional Countries.

His visit will provide an opportunity to further expand and strengthen bilateral relations across all areas of mutual interest including trade, education, tourism, defence and people to people contacts.

Besides the promotion of Pakistan-Nepal bilateral ties, ways of invigorating South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as an important regional organization will also be discussed during the visit.

The land-locked Nepal shares its geographical borders with India from three sides and with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region in the north.

Pakistan’s ties with Nepal are characterized by cordiality, mutual respect and commonality of interests. Their support to each other at bilateral and multilateral fora has remained indispensable for both the sides.
