MULTAN, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday said PTI accepted the Supreme Court’s decision under which its Secretary General Jahangir Khan Tareen stood disqualified under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution.
Talking to media in Multan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the Supreme Court’s decisions should have been accepted.
The PTI leader said the Supreme Court’s verdict in election rigging case wasn’t in their favor but yet they accepted it.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government would make a mistake if it tried to amend Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution.
“If the government brings amendment, PTI will challenge it in the Parliament,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that a five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court in its verdict – reserved on February 14 on different petitions and appeals challenging the length of disqualification under Article 62 (1)(f) – today ruled that a person disqualified under the said article was no longer eligible to contest the election again.
Meanwhile, the PTI’s leader Jahangir Tareen – who along with the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution – also accepted the lifetime disqualification of a politician under the mentioned article, and also expressed hope that he would clear himself in his review petition pending in the Court.
I always believed 62 1(f) to be for life but not applicable in my case.Full money trail provided of tax paid Income, property declared in assets of children and not mine on advice of tax consultant. This was the only issue. My review is still pending and IA justice will prevail
