WorldVladimir Putin assumes reign of Russia as president for fourth time

MOSCOW, Russia: The 65-year-old Vladimir Putin on Monday took Oath of his Office as the Russian President for another six years following an easy victory in presidential election held in March 2018 with no serious challengers.

It’s the fourth time that Vladimir Putin has assumed the reign of presidentship since 2000. However, it would be his last term as the Russian president as the Country’s Constitution bars him from running for the Office again after 2024.

His swearing-in ceremony was held today at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow, wherein Putin vowed to serve his people, safeguard their rights and freedoms, and defend the country’s sovereignty.

“I consider it my duty and my life’s aim to do everything possible for Russia, for its present and for its future,” Putin said.

Vladimir Putin was re-elected as the Russian president in March after he secured more than 76 percent of the votes, a victory widely considered to be his best ever performance. Though his main opponent Alexei Navalny could not contest the presidential election over allegations of embezzlement.

Putin’s first term as the Russian president was from 2000 to 2004, second from 2004 to 2008, and third from 2012 to 2018. He also served as the Russian prime minister from 2008 to 2012.
