ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has signed the landmark bill for the merger of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The president signed the FATA Reforms Bill 2018 a day after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa passed it by two thirds majority in Peshawar. Both Houses of the Parliament in Islamabad had already given their consent to the Bill.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly will stand dissolved by midnight today after completing its five-year Constitutional term.

The assembly met for just 15 minutes on last day of its Constitutional term which is going to end today and witnessed thin number of legislators in the House.

After the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, the proceeding started late for about 45 minutes with member of the Panel of Chairman Mehmood Jan in the Chair who had rung the bell for three times but no member came to the House after Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) member of the provincial assembly Ziaullah Afridi pointed out the lack of quorum.

As a result, Mehmood Jan read out the order of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra about the completion of Constitutional term of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and declared the House prorogued.

In the closing remarks, the Chairman expressed his well wishes for the well-being of the country and nation.

During the course of time, the legislators, visitors and press gallery were seen exchanging views on historic passage of FATA-KP merger bill.
