KARACHI, Pakistan: The former Chief Secretary Sindh Fazal-ur-Rahman on Saturday took oath as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh.

The Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair administered oath to the Caretaker Chief Minister in a simple ceremony held at Governor House in Karachi. The Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Rizwan Memon presided over the ceremony.

The former Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, the Deputy speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, Provincial Ministers Nisar Khuhro, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Shamim Mumtaz as well as Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar, Senator Saleem Zia, the Director General Rangers Maj-General Muhammad Saeed, the Provincial Ombudsman Asad Ashraf, Provincial Secretaries, IG Sindh A.D. Khawaja and dignitaries of the City attended the ceremony.

Later, the Caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rehman met with the Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair. The governor congratulated him for assuming charge as the caretaker chief minister.

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on measures to ensure free, fair and transparent general election scheduled for July 25, level playing field for all parties to actively participate in the elections, ensuring law and order situation on the election day, and also discussed other matters of mutual interest.

The caretaker chief minister expressed his gratitude to political parties and the province’s public for reposing trust in him. He expressed his resolve for taking all possible measures to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the province.

The governor expressed his confidence that the Caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rehman would discharge his responsibilities effectively and as per public expectations.

Muhammad Zubair said the upcoming elections would provide a historic milestone in the country’s political history. He said the elections were being held at a time when concrete steps had been taken for the restoration of peace and economic development and prosperity in the past five years.

The Sindh governor said today’s Pakistan was far peaceful and economically

stronger as compared to 2013. He said the upcoming elections would set direction for the country’s further economic progress and prosperity.

Zubair said the nomination of the Caretaker Chief Minister in Sindh with the consensus between the government and the opposition was a welcome development and in line with democratic norms.
