LAHORE, Pakistan: The Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Saturday announced not to enjoy VIP protocol, and said neither he would nor anyone else would be allowed to sit in leisure till objectives were fulfilled.

“We have to implement minimum spending policy. No officer, including me, will take VIP protocol,” Sheikh Rasheed said while presiding over a high level meeting at the Railways Headquarters in Lahore.

“Pakistani people are VIPs for us,” he added.

The minister was briefed by Railways Officials in the meeting, and told that currently the railways deficit was Rs 37 billion.

The railways minister said the government attached top priority to the enhancement of the railways’ revenue and reduction of its deficit.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said railways was facing a lot of problems which would be solved and they would invite the private sector to do business with railways. He said it was the need of the hour to establish the commercial plazas on the railways’ land to enhance the income of the department.

The railways minister said they would establish the Sanitation Task Force to clean the areas, adjacent to the railways stations.

The minister said they would work hard to improve the performance of railway and reduce its expenses, and funds would be spent solely for the development of the department.
