ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Resilience Day is being observed across Pakistan on Monday to mark the 13th anniversary of deadly earthquake of October 8, 2005.

The October 8 earthquake measuring at 7.6 on Richter scale caused havoc especially in northern parts of the Country including Azad Kashmir, and in which around 100,000 people had lost their lives.

National Resilience Day observed to express solidarity & sympathy with earthquake victims

The National Resilience Day is aimed at to express solidarity and sympathy with families who suffered natural calamities.

In his message on the occasion of National Resilience Day, President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized on actions to ensure disaster risk reduction, preparedness besides mounting swift and prompt response mechanisms.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also in his message stressed the need for strengthening the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to implement policy and plans at local level in the wake of natural calamities.

The prime minister said that the government is cognizant of the fact that there is an increase in intensity and frequency of natural disasters; and assures required resource allocation for implementation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy and National Disaster Management Plan.
