ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has decided to abolish its control over media advertisements, the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday.

While briefing about a meeting held with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair in Islamabad today, Fawad Chaudhry told that the prime minister has directed to release all outstanding dues to media houses.

Fawad Chaudhry said that it would leave a positive impact on the media industry and halt the ongoing retrenchment process in the media.

The information minister also said that the previous government used advertisements as a political tool, which eventually also severely affected the media industry. However, he added that since the PTI doesn’t endorse this practice, its government is abolishing it.

The minister said that the government is devising a merit-based policy for the release of advertisements.

RIUJ hails governments’ decisions

Meanwhile, the President Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Mubarak Zeb has appreciated the initiatives by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry for immediate release of media’s all outstanding dues.

The RIUJ president said that it would help deal with uncertainty prevailing in the media industry.

Mubarak Zeb also said that he hopes that now media houses owners will also remove the reservations regarding the payment of journalists’ salaries and their jobs.
