WASHINGTON: The United State has hailed Pakistan’s decision of opening Kartarpur Corridor for the Indian Sikh Community, terming it a big step towards confidence building between the two nuclear-armed South Asian Countries.
“We would welcome efforts to increase people-to-people ties between India and Pakistan,” the Deputy Spokesperson at the US State Department Robert Palladino said in a Press Briefing in Washington on November 29, 2018.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minster Imran Khan laid foundation of the Kartarpur Corridor which will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur area of Pakistani Punjab’s Narowal District with Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur District.
The prime minister assured the provision of modern facilities to the Sikh Community at Kartarpur on the eve of Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary celebrations next year.
In reply to another question, Robert Palladino said that the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has emphasized the need for Pakistan to deliver outcome and build confidence and trust between our two Countries.
“Our (US) policy towards Pakistan is clear,” the Spokesman said.
