RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces has said that the United Nations values Pakistan’s role in the war against terror and efforts to resolve the regional issues.

Talking to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, Maria Espinosa acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan army’s contributions for United Nations in maintaining peace, stability and rehabilitation in conflict zones.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including regional security were discussed.

The COAS thanked the visiting dignitary for her acknowledgment and contributions as part of UN.

Maria Fernanda Espionosa is currently in Pakistan on a five-day visit from January 18-22, 2019 at the invitation of the government of Pakistan.

Earlier on Monday, Maria Espinosa met the Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari in Islamabad and discussed different aspects of human rights protection in Pakistan.

Maria Espinosa also visited a “Shelter Home” and the Center for International Peace and Stability in Islamabad.
