ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has formed a four-member high level inquiry committee to carry out an investigation into the monthly gas overbilling.

The inquiry committee will comprise on senior officers of the Ministry of Energy, according to a notification issued on Monday.

Sher Afghan Khan will head the inquiry committee while Shahid Yousaf, Imran Ahmed and the general manager Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) have also been included in the committee.

The committee will ascertain the reasons for the increase in gas bills. It will also put forward its recommendations in light of its inquiry to make amendments in the billing system.

Earlier Prime Minister Imran Khan while taking notice of overbilling of gas on domestic consumers directed the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ghulam Sarwar Khan to conduct immediate inquiry into the overbilling.

The prime minister said that putting extra burden of gas prices on the masses was unjustified and inappropriate.
