BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: In recognition of services rendered for the promotion of cooperation between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan especially in the field of medical education, an honorary professorship was conferred on Pakistan’s Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi by the International Medical University (IMU).

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Kubanychbek Myrzabekovich Jumaliev, the former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan on March 7, 2019.

At present over 1800 students are studying at the IMU and over 1000 are Pakistani nationals; thus making it the biggest medical institution imparting education to Pakistani nationals in Kyrgyzstan.

The Ambassador was invited by the former Prime Minister to inspect the premises of the university in Bishkek and to meet Pakistani students. A 600-beds hospital is also being built at the premise with a state of art organ transplant, oncology and radiology departments to give on-job training to students.

During his six months stay in Kyrgyzstan, the Ambassador has been to all six universities which are providing education to Pakistani nationals. He has raised the issue on the quality of education with the Kyrgyz government and rectors of these universities.

Former Prime Ministers Kubanychbek also suggested to open a Pak-Kyrgyz Centre for Science and Technology at the IMU and sought the cooperation of the Government of Pakistan in this endeavor. This would be the first such Center for Excellence in Central Asia.
