ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 1298 cases are pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at present while only 4.32 percent cases were completed through plea bargain during the last five years, the Senate was informed.

In reply to a question raised by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Senator Sirajul Haq, the Minister for Law and Justice Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem told the House that 1298 cases are under progress in the regional bureaus of NAB due to further search of documents.

Farogh Naseem further told that these inquiries/investigations have been initiated under the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999 on various charges of corruption and corrupt practices as per Section 9, i.e. misuse of authority, embezzlement of criminal breach of trust, assets beyond means, loan default etc.

To another question by Senator Sirajul Haq, the minister also told the Senate that during the period from 2014 to 2018, out of 1413 NAB concluded 61 investigations through plea bargain (PB) under section 25 (b) of NAO, 1999 after the approval of concerned Accountability Courts.

The law minister told that more than 95 percent cases were completed other than plea bargain whereas only 4.32 percent cases were concluded through plea bargain during the last five years from 2014 to 2018.
