ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has urged India to shun its intransigence and allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination through a plebiscite.

In a tweet on Monday, the minister said that India has deployed 700,000 troops in the Occupied Valley and there is one Indian soldier on 10 Kashmiris.

Fawad Chaudhry said that despite spending billions of rupees on security in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), the situation is not under the control of India and it did not have the courage to hold polls.

On Sunday, the Indian Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora announced the Schedule for 17th Lok Sabha general elections in India, according to which, polls to elect a new Lok Sabha would be held from April 11, 2019 to May 19, 2019 while counting of votes would be started on May 23.

However, the Chief Election Commissioner announced that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir would not be held along with the Lok Sabha elections.

The Indian Occupied Kashmir has been under Governor’s Rule after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ended the ruling alliance with Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

With elections due by May, all political parties in the Kashmir Valley had appealed to the Election Commission to hold it along with the Lok Sabha polls.
