BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Faisal Niaz Tirmizi gave a talk on diplomacy and his experience in Kyrgyzstan to the under-graduate and post-graduate students of faculty of International Relations at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University in Bishkek on Monday, highlighting salient features of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan marked by high level visits and frequent exchanges.

The Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi also spoke on Technical Assistance Programme provided by the Government of Pakistan to the Kyrgyz Republic in the fields of diplomacy, banking as well as trade facilitation.

Whereas the main focus of the talk was on bilateral relations, most questions were asked on recent escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pulwama incident on February 14, 2019 and subsequent Indian air strike in Balakot and Pakistan’s reprisal attack as well as role of regional powers in particular Russia, China and the United States on resolving it.

Few questions were also asked on the status of Indus Water Treaty and Pakistan’s possible role in case India strops the flows of water against the provisions of 1960 World Bank negotiated Indus Water Treaty.

The Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University is jointly owned by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic & the Russian Federation and is providing education to 10,000 students including a few from Pakistan.

The Ambassador also called on Mr. Vladimir Ivanovich Nifadiev, Rector of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, and suggested the need for more interactions between Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic and Pakistani Universities in the field of research.

The Rector thanked the Ambassador to brief students on important regional and international affairs, and hoped that the Ambassador would be able to speak to student more frequently.
