Foreign OfficeIndia has reneged on Kashmir promises: Qureshi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that India has reneged on solemn pledges made to the International Community, the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and to Pakistan.

While addressing a Seminar titled ‘Major Foreign Policy Challenges Facing Pakistan’ organized by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development & Transparency (PILDAT) in Islamabad on Tuesday, Qureshi said that India has trampled upon Kashmiris’ inalienable right of self-determination.

The foreign minister said that India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5 and its total lockdown of Occupied Jammu & Kashmir have created a dire human rights and humanitarian situation and posed serious risks for peace and security.

Qureshi said that through its illegal and unilateral undertaking on August 5, India has sought to alter the internationally recognized disputed status of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to pave the way for changing its demographic structure and identity.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there are real fears of what may transpire next: A false flag operation to divert the world’s attention from India’s crimes in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a misadventure across the Line of Control (LoC) or even a Rwanda or Srebrenica-like genocide.

The foreign minister said that we won’t keep quiet and we will seize every opportunity to sensitize the world community about the unspeakable suffering of the people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir and dark vision of their tormentors.

Turning to Afghanistan, Qureshi said that there are real hopes of a breakthrough in parleys between the United States and the Taliban. He maintained that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and that dialogue and reconciliation offer the only way forward.

Qureshi reiterated that Pakistan will continue to facilitate the Afghan peace process as part of a shared responsibility for enduring stability.
