MIRPUR: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the earthquake victims will not be left alone and they will be helped to rebuild their damaged homes.

At least 25 persons including women and children were killed and around 400 others injured in Mirpur and its surrounding areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck on Tuesday.

Talking to the media persons in Jatlan town of Mirpur district on Wednesday along with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Muhammad Afzal, Dr Firdous said that all the institutions including the federal and Azad Kashmir governments will work in a coordinated manner to effectively address the problems of quake affected people.

The Special Assistant said that the NDMA and Pakistan army are playing an important role in provision of relief to the quake victims.

The Chairman NDMA Muhammad Afzal said that 14 kilometer road in Jatlan was badly affected by the quake. He said that machines of Pakistan army are working to repair the road which will be opened for light traffic by tomorrow evening.

Muhammad Afzal said that the quake victims are being provided with tents, blankets and food items including flour, sugar, ghee and rice.
