ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A high level delegation of Afghan Taliban has reached Islamabad for talks with Pakistani leadership as part of efforts to resume talks for ensuring long-awaited peace in war-stricken Afghanistan.

The visit by the Taliban Political Commission (TPC) in Doha has taken place on an invitation extended to them by Pakistan.

In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said that the visit would provide the opportunity to review the progress made under US-Taliban peace talks so far, and discuss the possibilities of resuming the paused political settlement process in Afghanistan.

Dr Faisal said that a meeting between the TPC delegation and the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is being finalized.

Earlier in a tweet, the Afghan Taliban Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said that a delegation of Afghan Taliban led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday.

The Taliban Spokesperson said that the delegation will hold talks with Pakistani Officials on several important issues.

As per media reports, the Afghan Taliban delegation will also meet the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who is already in Pakistan.
