ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday restored the National Assembly Membership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and the Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri.

The ruling was announced by a three-member bench of the Apex Court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Ijazul Ahsan in Islamabad.

Advocate Naeem Bukhari represented the NA deputy speaker in the Supreme Court, and gave his arguments.

After hearing Naeem Bukhari’s arguments, the Supreme Court Bench suspended the election tribunal’s judgement resulting in Qasim Suri’s disqualification, and resorted his membership.

During the hearing, Qasim Suri, Ali Muhammad Khan and Shibli Faraz were also present in the Court.

Earlier on September 27, an Election Tribunal in Quetta had disqualified the Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri, who won the general elections in July 2018 from NA-265 (Quetta-II) on PTI ticket, as member of the National Assembly.

The Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani had filed a petition against Qasim Suri, alleged rigging in the NA-265 (Quetta-II) constituency. The tribunal in its verdict had also ordered the holding of by-election in the constituency.

Later, Qasim Suri challenged his disqualification in the Supreme Court, pleading that the election tribunal’s verdict be declared null and void.
