ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet on Tuesday approved the removal of the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) with a condition that he deposits surety bonds prior to flying abroad.

The Cabinet met in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair, which discussed the overall political and economic situation of the Country.

It also deliberated upon the removal of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader’s name from the ECL to allow him to receive medical treatment in London as pleaded by the PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif.

In the meeting, the Federal Cabinet decided that the name of Nawaz Sharif will be removed from the ECL upon the submission of surety bonds in the form of cash or property by his family.

Besides, the former prime minister will have to return to the Country within eight weeks, when his bail-term granted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills Reference Case will end.

Earlier the Sub-Committee of the Federal Cabinet also met under the Chairmanship of the Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem to discuss the removal of Nawaz Sharif’s name from the ECL on humanitarian grounds.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Accountability Shahzad Akbar, the Interior Secretary, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Officials, Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician Dr Adnan Khan and Attaullah Tarar.

The Secretary Health and the Head of Medical Board briefed the Sub-Committee on the health of the former prime minister.

However, the Sub-Committee’s meeting ended inclusively, and it was decided that its second round would take place tonight.
