ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: More than 5,000 tests have been conducted in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to diagnose the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and 214 of them have turned out to be positive, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat told on Friday.

In a series of tweets, the Deputy Commissioner said that out of 214 COVID-19 patients in the ICT, 37 are admitted in hospitals while the rest have minor symptoms and are being quarantined at their houses.

Hamza Shafqaat said that 298 people including international passengers are suspected of having the virus, and they are at the state-run quarantines.

Sharing further details, he told that on April 24, 64 individuals were traced and tested for the Coronavirus, 294 households were checked and risk communication was done, 48 people were called as a follow-up, and 17 areas were fumigated and disinfected.

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad further apprised that four of the infected people are on ventilators whereas the rest all are fine.

Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat also said that so far three patients in the ICT have died whereas 33 have recovered from the disease.

In a separate tweet, he said that the smart lockdown policy is yielding excellent results in Islamabad.

The Deputy Commissioner said that Bhara Kahu, Shahzad Town, and Rimsha Colony areas had to be sealed for emerging as the COVID-19 epicenters; however, following the improvement in the situation, these areas were de-sealed.

Now Taramari and Shah Allah Ditta areas are sealed, he said adding that during the lockdowns we are ensuring the disinfection and food supplies for the people in the sealed areas to ensure life is not disrupted.
