ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has appointed Professor Dr. Muhammad Tabassum Afzal as the Rector COMSATS University.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Tabassum Afzal was appointed on the basis of a summary initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
President Dr. Arif Alvi, who is also the Chancellor COMSATS University, approved the terms and conditions of the Rector’s appointment.
Professor Dr. Tabassum Afzal’s appointment was made out of a panel of three persons recommended by the Search Committee and Senate of COMSATS University.
Separately, talking to the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza in a meeting held at the Awan-e Sadr in Islamabad, the president asked the Federal Population Task Force to intensify efforts to achieve the objectives of the Task Force.
Expressing his concern over increasing population, the president emphasised that the current pace of population growth needed to be checked by creating awareness among people about its social and economic implications.
It was decided to convene the third meeting at the earliest so as to materialize the goals of Task Force.
The meeting noted that COVID-19 pandemic had affected every sector of life, particularly health, and diseases like Polio and Tuberculosis have witnessed a surge due to the fact the government’s focus is currently on Pandemic leaving little resources to prevent and combat these diseases.
It’s is worth stating that the President is the Chairman and Dr. Zafar Mirza and all Provincial governments including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are members of the Task Force.
