PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology, a 260-bed state-of-the-art cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery and treatment facility.

The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology is equipped with six catheterization laboratories and as many operation theaters and foreign-trained faculty.

It will have the capacity to treat 2,500 to 3,000 heart surgery patients every year.

While speaking at the Inaugural Ceremony, the prime minister said that the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology will provide quality medical treatment to heart patients in the region.

The prime minister said that the poor people who cannot afford treatment of heart diseases at private hospitals will now have the best medical facilities at the Cardiac Institute.

Imran Khan congratulated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for completing the project despite financial constraints amidst COVID-19. He directed for maintaining a high standard of facilities at the institute.

The prime minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s Universal Health Insurance is another important initiative in terms of provision of health coverage to the people of the province, particularly the deserving families.

In addition, he said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s Sehat Insaf Card Scheme will contribute greatly for ensuring health facilities to the deserving families.

Imran Khan said that the Health Card gives the poor man a confidence of having a facility of free medical treatment at any hospital. He said that the Private Sector is being facilitated and encouraged to construct hospitals.
