AsiaMyanmar will have talks with Kachin rebels on Monday

Myanmar’s government and ethnic Kachin rebels will hold talks on Monday Feb. 4, 2013  in the Chinese border town of Ruili, reports Dispatch News Desk (DND).

Talks are in the backdrop of successful advances of  Myanmar’s Army that has captured several strategic guerrilla-held hilltops  and took the control of  Hka Ya Bhum, the highest hill in the area, on January 26. Since the conflict resumed in June 2011 after a 17-year ceasefire, the two sides have held at least 10 rounds of talks to try to end it.
