PakistanContempt of court: NAB chief given seven days to hire lawyer

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan granted seven days to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari to hire a lawyer in the contempt of court case against him, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Monday.

The apex court on Thursday issued a show-cause notice for contempt of court to Bokhari over a letter, he wrote to President Asif Ali Zardari.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case against Bokhari on Monday. During the course of proceedings, the court refused chairman NAB’s plea seeking 14 days for hiring a counsel.

Meanwhile Prosecutor General NAB, KK Agha requested that a larger bench be constituted to hear the case. The Chief Justice replied that a three member bench was hearing this case, while a two member bench was hearing a related case which made this a larger bench.

Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned till February 13.
