ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi and the Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak have tested positive for COVID-19.

“I have tested positive for COVID-19. May Allah have mercy on all COVID affectees. Had 1st dose of vaccine but antibodies start developing after 2nd dose that was due in a week. Please continue to be careful,” President Arif Alvi wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, in a tweet, the First Lady Samina Alvi said that the president has mild symptoms but is in good spirits.

The First Lady said that she had her test done too and tested negative and quarantining.

Samina Alvi appealed everyone to continue to get vaccinations done and practice Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to contain the rapid increase of COVID-19.

It’s worth mentioning that on March 20, Prime Minister Imran Khan also tested positive for COVID-19, and he has been in isolation at his residence in Bani Gala since then.

In his message from quarantine, Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the people to adhere to SOPs against COVID-19 as the third wave of the pandemic is far more dangerous than the first two.

The prime minister said that carriers of 3rd strain of the virus arrived in Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad where it is spreading fast.

Imran Khan said that the world is witness that wearing the mask and avoiding hot-spot greatly reduces chances of infection.
