ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has received 1.2 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine delivered by COVAX to support the government’s efforts to vaccinate high-risk people.

The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan appreciated COVAX and GAVI’s contribution to the collective effort to fight COVID-19.

In addition to guidelines that apply to all COVID-19 vaccines, Oxford-AstraZeneca will not be administered to females below the age of 40 years in Pakistan, according to the Ministry of National Health Services.

Meanwhile, 4,109 more people tested positive across Pakistan on May 7 with a positivity ratio of 8.54% while 120 COVID-19 patients succumbed to the disease.

In the last 24 hours, 60 COVID-19 patients died in Punjab, 25 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 in Sindh, 4 each in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and 3 in Balochistan.

So far, the Country has registered a total of 854,240 Coronavirus Cases and 18,797 deaths.
