HeadlinesSC nullifies appointments‚ transfers made during caretaker govt

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday nullified all appointments and transfers order by Mir Hazar Khan Khoso in his capacity as caretaker prime minister.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry announced the verdict.

The court observed that the federal government had the authority to review and retain the appointments and postings ordered by the caretaker government.

Moreover, the court ordered setting up of a three-member commission for new appointments in corporations and autonomous bodies.

The court observed that the caretaker government overstepped its mandate as it did not have the authority to make postings and transfers. It said the job of the caretaker government is to hold free and transparent elections and run day to day affairs.

The court remarked the caretaker government can transfer only those officers who can influence the electoral process.

The apex court observed the new government can review postings and transfers within fifteen days.
