ATHENS: The Greek government has shut down all Radio and TV services of the National Broadcaster‚ ERT and suspended all employees.

Government officials say it is to save money and to help lift the country out of its economic slump. It is another victim of country’s austerity cut. Short staff has been offered compensation.

Police have been deployed in Athens as thousands of people gathered outside the headquarters to protest against the decision.
