ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Energy Muhammad Hammad Azhar told the National Assembly on Wednesday that there are 20 mega electricity projects costing Rs 335,012.6 million which have been completed or ongoing in Balochistan during the present government.

In a written reply to a question by Professor Dr. Shahnaz Baloch, Hammad Azhar told that these mega electricity projects include one IPP Project, 15 projects by the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) worth Rs 27700.6 million, and 4 projects costing Rs 20512 million by the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC).

The minister told that a 1,320 MW imported coal-based power generation project at Hub, Balochistan has been completed during the tenure of the present government through the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB).

The minister told that the PPIB processed this project under the framework of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and it was commissioned on August 17, 2019. He told that the sponsors of the project include Hub Power Company (Pvt.) Limited and China Power International Holding.

Hammad Azhar told that the 1,320 MW imported coal-based power generation project at Hub executed by the PPIB was developed in IPP mode under the Power Generation Policy 2015, with 100% private sector investment of US$ 1,912 million (1$=Rs 150=Rs 286,800 million).
