ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched the Country’s largest sports initiative ‘Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive’ by lighting the torch at an Impressive Ceremony at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Monday.

A large number of youth from all the federating units attended the Launching Ceremony.

The drive, aimed at reviving sports culture for producing national heroes, is being organized in collaboration with the Kamyab Jawan Program and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive is part of four projects worth Rs 4 billion being started in the Country to keep the youth engaged in extracurricular and sports activities.

In its first phase, the event consists of 12 games including hockey, cricket, football, handball, wrestling, weightlifting, squash, volleyball, ski, judo, boxing, and Athletics.

Under the drive, the sports competitions will be held for young people aged 11 to 25 including women across the Country.

The sports competitions will be held at 25 places in all provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As many a 10 million youth will be selected in these competitions for world-class professional training.

On Sunday, the former British footballer Michael Owen announced that he has joined the Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive.

Michael Owen, who played for the English national team as well as football clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool, said that the drive will train youth by creating a “Soccer City” in Pakistan.

In a video message to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistani fans, Owen said that 68% of the Country’s population is under 30 years of age and that he was ready to play a role to bring the Pakistani youth from “local to a global” level.

Under the program, the government will establish High-Performance Centers in 12 Universities. The Sports Academies would be set up in various varsities including Bahauddin Zakariya University, University of Punjab, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, University of Karachi, Sindh Agriculture University, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, University of Peshawar, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, International Islamic University, Quetta University and Karakoram International University, Gilgit Baltistan.

Besides this, a High-Performance Centre is currently under construction at NED University Karachi which would work as a movement analysis lab.

The program will develop interest among youth for outdoor games instead of siting only on computer and living in virtual world. It will help to produce a healthy mind and healthy body youth for Pakistan

It will also provide players for regional and international competitions and play grounds of the Country will be again get life as youth has left to visit/attend/play outside.
