ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has expressed condolence to Bangladesh over the death of 37 people when an overcrowded ferry caught fire in the latter’s southern Jhalakathi district.

“The Government and people of Pakistan are deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in a ferry accident in Jhalakathi district in Bangladesh,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Friday.

“Our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the Government of Bangladesh,” the statement said.

It added that at this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the brotherly people of Bangladesh.

The ferry was carrying 500 people when it met the accident early on Friday near Jhalakathi, 250 kilometers (160 miles) South of the Capital Dhaka.
