ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government had decided to bring a Presidential Reference against Horse Trading in the light of the Supreme Court’s 2018 decision and initiate legal proceedings against dissent lawmakers.

The decisions were made in a consultative meeting held at Bani Gala on Friday to consider various Constitutional and legal options.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan and the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan gave the briefing to the prime minister.

The participants also held consultations and discussed and future strategies regarding legal action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) dissenting lawmakers.

The meeting expressed full determination to thwart the no-confidence motion.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that steps would be taken so that no one would dare to commit horse trading in the future

Meanwhile on Twitter, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said that the government has decided to file a reference in the Supreme Court under Article 186 for interpretation of Article 63-A.

The information minister said that the opinion of the Apex Court will be sought as to what will be the legal status of the votes of the party members who are explicitly involved in horse-trading and changing loyalties for the sake of money.

The reference will also seek opinion whether the disqualification of the members who change loyalties for economic gains will be for life time or they will be allowed to run for re-election.

Fawad Chaudhary said that the Supreme Court will be prayed to conduct daily hearing to decide the reference.

Separately, addressing a news conference, the Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said the Country cannot afford political confrontation in view of its economic situation.

Sheikh Rashid said that the opposition parties will be facilitated to hold their long march. He said that we want them to determine the route of their rally after sitting with the local administration.

The minister said that the video footage of Sindh House has exposed those involved in buying and selling of votes. He asked the estranged PTI members as well as the allied parties to stand by Prime Minister Imran Khan at this critical juncture.
