In preparation for the Hajj Season 2023, the Kiswa – the black cloth which covers The Holy Kaaba in Masjid Al Haram – has been raised about three meters.

The General President Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais supervised the work and took part in Kiswah Raising Ceremony in in Masjid Al Haram, Mecca.

Why is the Kiswah of the Kaaba raised?
- To protect and maintain its cleanliness and safety, and prevent pilgrims from tampering with it.
- Some damage is caused to the Kiswah due to tear caused by the Tawafeen (pilgrims who perform tawaf).
Procedure of Lifting the Kiswah
- The Kiswah is raised 3 meters
- Wrapped up with pieces of white cloth (known as Ihram)
